Sunday Sermon

The Heart, Hands, and Feet of Jesus: The week before Palm Sunday

Hey Yo,

Happy Monday.

Here’s yesterday’s sermon. I hope it encourages you.

The Heart, Hands, and Feet of Jesus: Navigating Through life Passages & Pain with Purpose

Big Idea: Learning from Jesus right before Palm Sunday

As we journey toward Easter, let's reflect on the profound actions of Jesus—teaching, healing, and seeking—and their impact on our lives today.

Palm Sunday is features in Matt: 21.

So we want to learn this week from Matt 20:

  • The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard: Matthew 20:1-16

  • Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time: Matthew 20:17-19

  • The Request of James and John: Matthew 20:20-28

  • Jesus Heals Two Blind Men: Matthew 20:29-34

“The first action to be taken is to pull ourselves together. If we are going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb, when it comes, find us doing sensible and human things -- praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts -- not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs.”

C.S. Lewis

Teaching is Jesus' Heartbeat

  • Nicodemus' Recognition: "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher from God..." (John 3:2 NLT)

  • Samaritan Woman's Insight: "I know the Messiah is coming... He will tell us everything." (John 4:25 NLT)

  • Teaching in the Temple: "He taught daily in the temple." (John 7:14, 8:2 NLT)

  • Affirmed by Friends: "The Teacher is here and is calling for you." (John 11:28 NLT)

Healing is Jesus' Handprint

Ministry Overview: "Jesus taught, preached, and healed every sickness among the people." (Matthew 4:23 NLT)

  • Key Healings:

    • Leprosy healed with a touch (Matthew 8:3 NLT)

    • Centurion’s servant healed at a word (Matthew 8:13 NLT)

    • Withered arms and blind eyes restored (Matthew 12:13, 21:14 NLT)

    • Demon-possessed man healed, speaking and seeing (Matthew 12:22 NLT)

Seeking is Jesus' Footprint

What was He seeking? He was seeking the lost – For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10 NKJV).

Who was He seeking? He was seeking the one who had gone astray –What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? (Matthew 18:12 NKJV)

  • Jesus is seeking forward facing faithfulness: "Remember Lot's wife!" (Luke 17:32 NLT) - A caution against looking back when called to follow Jesus.

  • Jesus is seeking Unwavering Faith: "I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!" (Matthew 8:10 NLT) - Praising the centurion’s faith, showcasing Jesus' appreciation for those who trust Him beyond the visible.

  • Jesus is looking for disciples willing to take part in Sacrificial Giving: "This poor widow has put in more than all …Luke 21:1-4

  • Jesus is seeking seekers that are friendly and influential: "Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home." (Luke 16:9 NLT) -
