Late Bus: Mother's Day Sermon

My bad. Been Crazy busy

The Strength of a Mother’s Faith: Lessons from Biblical Matriarchs

[Rom 16:1-7 NLT] 1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church in Cenchrea. 2 Welcome her in the Lord as one who is worthy of honor among God's people. Help her in whatever she needs, for she has been helpful to many, and especially to me. 3 Give my greetings to Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus. 4 In fact, they once risked their lives for me. I am thankful to them, and so are all the Gentile churches. 5 Also give my greetings to the church that meets in their home. Greet my dear friend Epenetus. He was the first person from the province of Asia to become a follower of Christ. 6 Give my greetings to Mary, who has worked so hard for your benefit. 7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews, who were in prison with me. They are highly respected among the apostles and became followers of Christ before I did.

I. Mary: A Mother’s Heart and Faith

[Luk 2:18-20 NLT] 18 All who heard the shepherds' story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.

  1. Ponder

  2. Praise: [Luk 1:46-48 NLT] 46 Mary responded, "Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. 47 How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! 48 For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed.

  3. Persist:

[Jhn 2:3-5 NLT] 3 The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother told him, "They have no more wine." 4 "Dear woman, that's not our problem," Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come." 5 But his mother told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

II. Hannah: A Model of Prayer and Dedication

[1Sa 1:9-10 NLT] 9 Once after a sacrificial meal at Shiloh, Hannah got up and went to pray. Eli the priest was sitting at his customary place beside the entrance of the Tabernacle. 10 Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the LORD.

[1Sa 2:18-19 NLT] 18 But Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the LORD. He wore a linen garment like that of a priest. 19 Each year his mother made a small coat for him and brought it to him when she came with her husband for the sacrifice.

  1. Intercession

  2. Follow Through

III. Legacy of Faith: Lois and Eunice

[2Ti 1:5 NLT] 5 I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.

  • Prayer: "May our faith inspire and nurture those who follow, Lord. Lord, I repent if I have missed opportunities to teach and inspire faith in others."
